The Rise Of Web 2.0 As A Marketing Tool

By pgesystems On March 2, 2010 Under Internet Marketing

In the world of marketing, one must be on his toes to be able to compete with their competitors. The marketing landscape changes over the years, and if one isn’t up to the task, his or her business will falter.

Before, if one hears the word “delicious” it invokes images of a happy eater having had his fill. Now, it can mean an online tool for bookmarking as well as marketing one’s business. Delicious dot com is a bookmarking and social site that can prove to be a powerful tool for internet marketers. Especially if paired with services like ping.fm, one can post whatever he or she wants and have it posted in various web 2.0 sites.

Before, marketing consisted of massive billboards, print ads and in the recent past, TV ads and maybe videos uploaded in youtube. Save for youtube, all of those mean a lot of spending. Marketing and launching an ad campaign is never cheap.

However, with the advent of the Internet, as long as you have an Internet connection and a computer, you can market yourself for literally less than 1/10th what you might spend for traditional marketing strategies.

Aside from Delicious, you can use facebook, twitter, diigo or multiply to market yourself. What makes it so cool is that all those are free. That means you don’t have to spend a small fortune just to start your marketing campaign. What’s more, being social networking sites, you can add your friends and they will always be up to date to what you are up to. Some services let your announcements or messages be seen by the friends of your friends’ friends. Think of the massive market you have tapped into. And best of all, it didn’t cost you an arm or a leg.

So go ahead and start your own web 2.0 marketing campaign. It costs virtually nothing, but the results can be overwhelming.
