Podcast was once and to some extent still is a growing trend on the web and while it was mainly audio files being the format of choice, video files are being used more and more with broadband connections allowing for bigger downloadable files.

The process of distributing video podcast is through web syndication, a file that users can download and view when they want, and to do so users can subscribe to a variety of different topics, checking them for updates regularly and downloading when they become available.

An internet marketing campaign through podcasting, you can have any number of episodes; this can then tie into a blog, RSS Feed, Social Bookmarking, Google Pipes and Twitter so that you can build a following. Webmasters and companies can become content producers for a variety of products on the internet, but this would require an investment in Video/Audio equipment.

See An RSS Feed Here A Guide To Heathrow Parking

Podcasters can build Hugh audiences around the world because distributing is easy with all the right tools, discovering podcasting through audio or video can be distributed to millions through aggregators and since podcasting is so easy to use more people will start using podcast video.

What is a podcast client?

This is software used to access and download podcasts and it is also known as media aggregators as mentioned earlier. These programs are designed to automatically access an online file, or feed, and download the audio or video file associated with it.

Here are a few of these programs;

 – LpodderX
– Juice
– Nimiq
– PodSpider

These are easy to find because there are so many available for free, and you can find one that suits your needs and style.

These programs run on your computer and will periodically download RSS files from sites that you’re monitoring. The file tells the program about an audio or video file stored on a server that is new or has been updated allowing the podcast client to download the file for you to view and or listen to.

See Another RSS Feed Here Cheap Hotels

One of the main reasons why a Podcast client is so diverse is because it allows the user to view information on a wide range of topics from the privacy of their computer without using a web browser and like blogs people can find writers they trust based on any niche/topic they are interested in, and subscribe to the podcasts through audio and or video.

Using the podcast client to access and download the files makes it as easy to keep up with the sites you like and as a distributor these are the elements you need to address, another reason why less people are using Podcast.

How to Create a Podcast?

Creating a Podcast is easy if you’re interested in using Podcasting as a marketing tool, and the very first element of the process is having access to a web server, this is because you need to upload files to the server.
Like Blogging, Podcasting can’t be done from a journal site, so having access to a server is critical.

Once the hosting is set up, a small program called dircaster.php should be customized for your site, and can be used to automatically generate the RSS feed that the subscribers will download.

The mp3 files or video files should be uploaded after all the information about the file has been attached and are in the same directory as dircaster.php, as long as it is in the same directory as the mp3 files or video files, the system will generate an RSS file that will tell your subscribers where to download the latest podcasts from.

To update and add new episode, create and upload the new file to the same directory. When dircaster.php is accessed, it will recognize the new file and relay the information on to your visitors and with these simple steps you can see how easy it is easy for anyone to create a podcast with a small expenditure of time and effort.

The process is easy to set up; domain and hosting is now cheaper than ever before, so almost anyone can have a small site, and the programs that are needed are all easy to find and use.

How do you find Free Podcast Videos?
You can easily find free podcast videos online. There are numerous podcast directories online that can help you find feeds to subscribe to, or you may find a feed that’s available from a site you’ve visited.

Looking through directories and finding feeds you want to download is easy, subscribe to a few that you’ve found using one of the many free podcast clients available.

The podcast client will automatically download an RSS file that tells your podcast client when there is a new file to download and depending on your client, the program will notify you or maybe even download it automatically based on your initial setup.
?
Once the file is on your computer, you’ll be free to listen and or watch your Podcast at any time convenient and start enjoying the information downloaded.
Feeds are available on every topic, from independent news shows to experimental videos, to scientific information and on my favorite subject SEO.

Even colleges and universities distribute their own Podcast and these are very popular for lectures so that students will have a chance to watch and review from the comfort of their computer chair.

The best part is that these free podcast videos, are of course, free. All of these feeds are easy to find, and the publishers, for the most part, do it simply because they enjoy it, and are glad to give it away based on the benefits it provides.

So why not include a podcast into your SEO campaign, if you want to increase traffic to your Blog or website you need to have Podcasting in your arsenal.

It’s as simple as that.

Podcasts, which allow viewers to download video material into their iPods to watch at their own convenience, has always been a secret weapon for harassed parents looking for a way to entertain bored and listless children. Think long road trips, or the typical meltdowns at restaurants, doctor’s clinics, or grocery lines. Bring out the iPod, and suddenly, the kids have something to do leaving Mommy and Daddy to go about their task without fear of the Tantrum from Hell.

The cartoon industry has caught on. Today, there are podcast videos specifically for children, which are either delivered for free with advertising, or can be downloaded for a minimal subscription rate. For example, Radio Disney has been sending cartoons-on-the-go, taking this billion-dollar family entertainment company from the widescreen to the wee screen.

Tinkerbell would’ve been proud.

Other cartoon characters to jump on the pod: Kedou the Bear, and his adventures (or misadventures) of growing up, Buck Howdy, and 123 Listen to Me. Many smaller, independent cartoon companies that otherwise may have had difficulty breaking into nationwide television are also bringing their shows to the web, for easy download.

The advantage of podcasts for kids go beyond acting as a babysitter. The educational content of many of these videos can be replayed again and again, wherever the child may be allowing for the repetition and reinforcement that young learners need. It doesn’t even have to be about the ABCs or the 123s: there are nursery rhymes, vocabulary builders, even simple documentaries on the trip to the zoo.

Podcasting has also unleashed a whole new (and very young) generation of directors: kids are starting to make podcasts as well, and sharing their files on podcast forums and parenting sites.

It’s not surprising, then, for a nine-year-old to say that he’s just aired his first mini documentary. This tech-savvy generation, as at home with the PC as with their paper and crayons, can easily use the software used for making podcast videos. It’s an excellent way of encouraging them to use their imagination, and if several kids are involved in a video, it also teaches social skills and important values like discipline, concentration, and problem-solving.

One podcast made by a group of twelve year olds was part of a history project they did for school, and centered on the historical buildings in their area. While it’s not going to win any Oscar awards (yet), it did inject a little excitement and fun into an activity that most kids would not have found particularly interesting.

Sometimes, the podcasts consist of the school plays and performances of the kids, allowing relatives from around the country to watch their child sing, dance, and possibly walk around the stage in a funny vegetable costume. So far, the feedback on this feature has been overwhelmingly positive. Children love being able to say that they’ve been on TV, while relatives are thankful to have access to the videos compiled by the schools or parent-teacher associations (some of them even include behind-the-scene footage!).

The podcasts have become a new way for children to explore, and enjoy, the world.

Podcasts are enjoying a growing popularity all over the world. Its unique delivery system (podcast files in MP3 format being downloaded into computers automatically upon subscription) and the fact that you can bring it and listen to it anywhere through portable music players is contributing to its continually increasing subscriber base. Of course, the fact that it is all free is a big attraction for anyone, and add to that the relatively easy way of availing this great new application. All one needs is an internet connection and a computer – the portable player itself is an optional accessory and not needed to really enjoy listening podcasts.

There are so many available podcasts on the internet catering to so many genres. In fact, the available genres offered by podcasts are so much diverse than what is offered in regular radio programming. One of the most popular podcast genres though are so-called comedy podcasts. These types of podcasts consistently rate at the very top of any podcast countdown on the internet. This attests to its massive popularity.

There could be many reasons why comedy podcasts seem to have captured the attention and following of so many computer users and podcast fans all over the world. The light hearted nature of the podcasts as well as the silly subjects that are discussed are just perfect for the medium. There are also comedy podcasts that take the usual interview format with celebrities and gives it’s a hilarious spin. Imagine having a very stressful day at work, or you are stuck in rush hour traffic and the wait is driving you crazy. Nothing could alleviate those negative feelings more than hearing hilarious banter or commentaries on your portable music player. The comedy could distract you from the stress or from the boredom. Comedy podcasts are also a good genre to mix with the music in your portable player. After listening to your favorite albums you can kick back and just let your hair down with those zany comedy podcasts.

There are so many different comedy podcasts to choose from that one would be hard pressed to just pick one. Below are some of the most popular comedy podcasts available on the internet:

The Ricky Gervais podcast – The funny star of the British sitcom The Office has began making podcasts. Gervais is as funny as ever. This is British comedy at its best.

The President’s Weekly Radio Address – This is the official parody of the US president’s weekly radio address. Pres. Bush’s weekly address is lampooned every week by these witty writers

Gay Fun Show – called the “Love Boat” of podcasts, hear political comedy given an unmistakable gay twist by its two hosts. These guys also interview different celebrities with their gay aplomb.

Comedy 365 – another outstanding British-based comedy podcast. This is one of the most popular Brit-comedy podcasts on the net and is worth checking out.

Infected by Martin Sargent – TechTV host Martin Sargent brings his zany and hilarious wit in his tour of the most cutting edge, most humourous, and weirdest content on the internet.

Imagine a mobile classroom that’s accessible to the student wherever he or she may be, and that holds lectures whenever he or she is in the mood for it. This is the kind of learning scenario that those with the knowledge to share are able to provide through Podcasts. With these downloadable files from different learning sources, portable digital audio and video players now offer the anytime, anywhere option to learning.

Before the iPod and other portable media players became popular not so long ago, on-demand learning was possible through audiotapes and compact discs primarily featuring audio versions of books. Now that more advanced technology has made it possible for more people to make podcasts at a smaller cost, more and more of these audio lectures are turning up, thus more information in this format has become available to just about anyone.

Aside from being able to choose the time and venue for your learning experience, as a podcast user, you are also able to dictate the pace, as well as be able to better retain the information by replaying, or learning by repetition. This method of learning, however, will not provide you with clarifications in case something in the content of the podcast is unclear to you. Yet it provides students a convenient means of preparing for class discussions and quizzes, even while on the commute to school.

Visiting podcast directories aimed to answer the user’s learning needs, one will find podcasts on science, language, philosophy, management, history, and arts, to name a few subject groups that may be included in the student’s curriculum at school. There are also podcasts on the topics of spirituality, self-development, and professional advice. Of course, podcast versions of many major literary works that may be discussed in class are also accessible through the Internet.

Meanwhile, you can also check on the biographical background of an important figure you’re studying, from scientists to philosophers, from artists to political figures. For the more practical learners, podcasts of language courses are becoming more and more popular, as the portable media players make it easier for learners to check back on different parts of the lecture without much delay. There are also pieces on hobbies, sports, travel, and even teaching for professional teachers.

Sooner or later, teachers and professors will catch on and even look around on the Internet for “recommended listening” to prescribe to their students. They may even rise up to the challenge of providing their lectures in podcast format and making them available to students online even for the purpose of reviewing or helping students who missed the actual lecture. Whatever development arises from this technological advancement, it just goes to show how much technology has affected how people learn.

With a user base of well over 20 million listeners, Podcasting may very well continue to gain popularity as video podcasting latches on. Video podcasting is like being on television, only your podcast is available through the Internet, at any convenient time to just about everyone who goes online. Just as audio podcasts cover a vast assortment of topics, video podcasting presents many possibilities to its user, for both sender and receiver of the message.

Even those experienced podcasters only need to incorporate the corresponding visuals to their audio script and use a camera to record it instead of an audio recording device, to start making their own video podcasts. Video podcasting is made even easier, as this type of broadcasting does not involve any particular software for server distribution, nor does it have technical limitations as to the format of video encoding.

Resources available online for a low price or for free have made the creation of video podcasts quite simple. Anyone who seeks to promote his or her business or simply make his or her own face famous through podcasting will only need a digital camera or web camera to record the video, plus some free downloadable software for recording and editing the actual video. Also needed are free video codecs for encoding and compression of the final video, and free software for generating the necessary RSS files.

Some topics that audio podcasts were previously made about may effectively benefit from a video upgrade, such as travel, video game tips, technology updates, and even relaxation trends. A how-to video podcast also seems logical and possibly much easier to follow than an audio-only version. Meanwhile, budding filmmakers can start making a name for themselves, as they find an audience by making independent movie podcast projects. As the technology becomes even more and more available, a greater possibility for podcasting as a commercial venue lies ahead. Businesses looking to advertise to a greater audience are sure to find ways.

Now, with the rise of mobile video players, it has become much easier for the message to reach the audience even while they’re on the go, queued up at a store register, or waiting for a friend. The technology has allowed an optimised take on video viewing on-demand. In addition to that, if you’re accustomed to viewing your shows on a typical television screen or want to show your latest download to a group of friends, you can easily connect your mobile media player to your TV and just sit back down.

For more professional audio and video podcasts, you can use Podcasting packages available online, such as the Podcast Blaster. The package includes the professional recording software, over a hundred sound files that may be used for embellishing your podcast, and a podcast manual that will not only guide you in making that worthy podcast, but will also give you tips on effectively promoting your podcast.

The overwhelming popularity of portable MP3 players has brought with it all new innovations in using this new technology. The most popular application that has come out recently are podcasts.

Podcasts are the automatic distribution of MP3 files via RSS or XML. With podcasts, a user downloads software and installs it in order to receive their favorite podcasts automatically from the podcast’s website. Apple iTunes is an example of a podcast software that can deliver podcasts to your personal computer. The files that are downloaded come in an mp3 format and you can then listen to them in your personal computer or better yet, on your portable MP3 player so you can bring your podcast episodes wherever you go.

Podcasts are like radio programs with one big difference. Anyone can make and distribute their podcasts. This makes it a true populist initiative. Podcasters can rant about their favorite political issue, talk about their CD collections, discuss plot twists in their favorite comic book titles or even advise people about how to make podcasts. The subjects and topics that can be discussed in podcasts are only limited by your imagination.

Just like popular TV or radio shows, there are already podcasts that can be considered as widely popular. Below are some popular podcasts that you should try:

The Onion Radio News – This is a daily podcast that features short news clips from The Onion’s 24 hour radio news network. For those who still don’t know The Onion, it is an online “news network” that puts a satirical spin on the latest news and political issues.

New York Times Front Page – This is a daily summary of the top headlines of every weekday morning.

X-Play Daily Videogame Podcast – This is another daily podcast that offers gamers the latest gaming news, tips, tricks as well as previews of upcoming games.

Meditation Station – This podcast is aimed at people who are stressed and are seeking to achieve a little focus on their hectic lives. The regular meditations can help you de-stress.

This Week in Tech – This award-winning podcast finds Leo Laporte and other well-known tech luminaries discussing the latest tech trends.

Science Friday – Making Science Radioactive – this weekly podcast discusses the latest news and trends in science, technology, health and the environment.

Ebert & Roeper – Popular film critics Ebert & Roeper review and discuss the merits (or demerits) of the latest movies showing in Hollywood.

Indiefeed: Alternative/Modern Rock – This is a great way of getting great songs from the alternative/modern rock genre. Everyday the podcast features one song that includes information about the artist as well as where to buy the album. This podcast is redefining how music is being delivered to people.

The Catalyst Podcast – This is a community that aims to raise the next generation of leaders and teaches them about the church and culture.

Penn Jillette – The popular and edgy magician airs excerpts of his popular satellite radio show to his fans.

Travel with Rick Steves – This is a weekly hour-long conversation with experts and callers about travel, culture, people and the kind of stories that you only get when you travel.

So what exactly is a Podcast?

The word Podcast gets thrown around a lot these days but what exactly is a Podcast? Think of a podcast as a radio show that you can subscribe to or download at any time. It may help to think of it kind of like TIVO for audio programs. In fact, a podcast is a web feed of audio or video files placed on the Internet for anyone to subscribe to, or download. Search online and you’ll find a range of Podcasts available on nearly every topic imaginable. They range from entertainment focused to educational to business oriented and everywhere in between.

A podcast differs from a simple download in that new content may be automatically delivered. Users need not click into your website for important specials since all of this information may be automatically downloaded. A podcast show consists of a series of individual episodes that you can listen to and view on-line or offline whenever and wherever you want.

While podcasting has been around for about five years now remarkably, the term itself, has only been around since 2004. It’s a contraction of IPod (The most popular MP3 player) and broadcasting. However, you don’t even have to have an MP3 player to listen to programs. You can ’subscribe’ to an entire podcast series using software on your PC or listen to a single episode at a time by using a web browser. Subscribing to a podcast ensures that all new shows are automatically downloaded to your computer as they are published, and even better subscribing is generally free.

If you do happen to have an MP3 player, the next time you sync your device, your podcasts will be downloaded for listening on the go. If you don’t want to subscribe, but rather just want a copy of a particular episode, you can just click the “Download” button to save to your hard disk. Once downloaded you can then manage it and play it like you would any other audio file. What distinguishes podcasts from other audio or video media is that the content is accessible to its audience(s) whenever, wherever, and however they want.

What are the business applications of Podcasting?

The podcast is a real advantage for business travelers and salespeople who are constantly on the go. Since they are frequently in transit they can learn about what a company is offering while they travel. They’re able to stay in the loop about changes that are occurring in the industry or a particular company while on the way to their next meeting.

Whenever a business wants to change its marketing emphasis, their podcast will change with them. Podcasts enable potential customers to find out more about a particular company and its range of products and service without feeling pressured by a salesperson. Rather, a friendly voice explaining what makes the company unique will better serve to convert a potential client into a customer.

Podcasts also save on manpower. An extensive sales force is typically required to detail a company’s newest offers and innovations. With a podcast, visitors click in and are directed to any new information the company wants to present.
The other really great thing about podcasts is that they have an incredibly wide reach. Clients from across the world can access information on companies or products and learn about them in a simple, direct manner at any time, and without having to be tied to a computer.

Especially important is the utilization of pod cast directories which list podcast shows along with the links to their original websites. These directories publicize the available podcasts. Among the more popular of the podcast directories are Yahoo Podcasts, Odeo, Podcast Alley and Podcasting News. When using directories it’s important to select genre and content categories that make it easier for listeners to find your podcast. Once you are listed with a directory, you will begin to get visitors from these directories to your website.
In order to encourage visitors to listen your podcast you’ll need to start by creating an enticing title that tells them just enough about your product to intrigue them.

More important than having a great title though is having even better content. An outline for your podcast will enable you to be sure you don’t lose your audience, and cover all the points you want to hit. How long your podcast will be is directly related to how much news you have to share and the extent to which you can keep that news fresh and exciting. Frequency of updates is also an important issue to address. This will likely depend on the nature of what you’re discussing and how quickly things change in that industry.

So to sum up: Podcasts are basically like online radio shows that can be downloaded, or subscribed to. When used effectively they can be a powerful marketing tool for any sort of business.

What is podcasting?

“Podcasting” is a term coined from the Apple Computer Corporation product – the iPod, which is a portable digital audio device that lets its users store music from their computer to the device so that they can listen to it anywhere, anytime.

However, the term is no longer exclusive to the actual iPod product. It now can mean any software and device system that allows the user to download audio (usually in MP3 format) and store onto the device for the user’s listening.

What makes this different from radio or other Web-based media is that podcasts allow users total control over when they access and listen to the audio material. It does so by using the RSS standard or Real Simple Syndication.

The difference from broad and Web casts lies in how the material is created and distributed over the Internet. Instead of a centralized source and stream, podcasting is capable of sending the audio content directly to individual iPods and similar devices.

Who does podcasting?

Practically anyone with access to the Internet can podcast. As much as blogging began in this way, so does podcasting, whose appeal lies in the ease and convenience of creating and transmitting any audio material via the World Wide Web.

Broadcast industry players and radio shows syndications are only now riding the bandwagon by formatting their material as podcasts. But the great thing about this technology is that even non-pros can use podcasting to share their self-produced content in order to voice out their own opinions.

How does podcasting work?

Podcasting is almost an inevitable outcome of the Internet where great ease is given to anyone to publish anything and distribute it anywhere.

Users can connect their audio devices to their computers, access a podcast subscription, and download the feeds from the site. The audio is accessed by the user from the source and is automatically stored in the device. Numerous resources on the Internet detail how to improve podcast quality in terms of sound, equipment, and content.

What makes podcasting so popular, and therefore powerful, is its aural (listening) nature, which many deem superior over text (reading). Listeners of podcasts are able to learn in conjunction with another activity such as during a commute or exercise.

Why is it important?

A great plus factor for podcasting is in the realm of education. While it cannot totally replace the classroom setup, podcasts can provide teachers yet one more way to connect with students. As almost all young people live on the Internet and many own portable audio devices, the possibilities of giving them something useful and educational through this means are great.

Where is it headed?

Enthusiasts have yet to find a limit to the uses of podcasting. This is most seen in the unabated growth of sites that categorize hundreds and thousands of podcasts and make them easily accessible to subscribers.

Even now, podcasting is developing at near breakneck speeds. Users and subscribers are becoming more discriminating, demanding new features for categorizing and indexing podcasts. As such, podcast producers are looking for new ways to enhance the simple audio format to deliver experiences that will not only entertain but educate as well.

The breadth and reach of podcasting is only now being realized but its growth is by no means slowing. With more and more rich media finding distribution on the Web, the quality of podcasts rely on how informed people are – both in creating and subscribing to content. The more you know about them, the better position you are to becoming a podcaster not only of popularity but, more importantly, of substance.

Robin over at MasterNewMedia.org has written this article about where to submit your RSS feeds and weblog URLs to get more exposure, visibility and reach. If you’re a blogger, your blogging software (ie. Wordpress) most likely has an automatic method that makes it easy and quick to notify directories of any updates on your blog. This feature is called XML-RPC ping.

Technical Background of XML-RPC Pings

The name XML-RPC is a combination of two acronyms. XML is nothing more than a distinct alphabet used to communicate between two computers connected to the Internet. RPC stands for Remote Procedure Call, which means that you are executing a command on one computer that controls the the behavior of a separate system on the internet, so that the remote computer properly executes the request.

A ping is just term used to describe one computer sending a signal to another computer over a computer network (like the internet), while expecting a response.

To really get into what XML-RPC pings really are, we could be here all day and night while I explain the technical details behind the technology.

Pings are just one of the aspects of the XML-RPC web services. Another application of XML-RPC would be the remote creation and posting of articles. You could use an application on your computer to create and post your article (or blog post) to your online blog without ever logging on to your blog’s administration backend.

Importance of XML-RPC Pings

The nice thing about XML-RPC specifications is that it allows computers to talk to one another. Regardless of the Operating System in use on each of the machines. This means that it does not matter if you’re running MS Windows, MacOS, Linux, or any of the other Operating Systems out there. There is more to be said about Ping services though. Usually, directories and aggregators find out that a blog has been updated by checking the RSS feed every thirty minutes. This is NOT a very efficient method! Think of all that wasted bandwidth!!

XML-RPC Pings, on the other hand, only notify a directory when a blog entry is published for the first time. Subsequent actions to the blog entry do not trigger the Ping service to be triggered. This way, anyone that requires notification of updated content has instant and reliable notification to suit their needs.

Requirements for using XML-RPC Pings

On the sending side, popular blog applications like Blogger, Wordpress, MoveableType, etc typically provide a setting in the administration backend preferences and settings area that allows you to specify which directories supporting XML-RPC to ping. On the receiving side, most directories supporting XML-RPC have a developer’s section on their web sites mentioning the URL to use.

Ping-o-Matic and Other Multi-Pinging Resources

Ping-o-Matic stands out because it was the first well-known resource to take care of notifying all the different directories and aggregators by sending multiple XML-RPC Pings simultaneously. Ping-o-Matic offers a web form as well as an XML-RPC interface of it’s own. The Ping-o-Matic web form requires that you manually choose the services that you would like to notify of your changes. The XML-RPC interface, on the other hand, takes care of all of that for you automatically, although not covering all the services available on the web form.

Ping-o-Matic no longer is the only solution for multi-directory pinging. There are many others with the same or similar capabilities and different directories and features. Some of these include:

Pingoat – notifies over 50 sites, some of which are very specialized.

King Ping – ping some standard web feeds as well as a few podcasting feeds.

BlogFlux – just another of the multi-focused blog related services that accept Ping updates.

Feed Shark – requires individual clicking of the resources to ping.

BlogBlip – features similar services to those of Ping-o-Matic, with the ability to add custom services as well.

FeedShot – automatic submission to the search engines. An email address, although not required, can be entered for confirmations.

Smart Update Pinger – replaces the built-in Wordpress RPC-XML Ping service with many improvements.
